Oxfam Trailwalker – The Flaming Boots

Most of you will be familiar with Oxfam. Oxfam holds an annual event in Sydney and Melbourne called the Oxfam Trailwalker. Teams of 4 people have 48 hours to complete a 100 km walk through the beautiful bushland in the Yarra Valley. It’s not a relay, each team member completes the entire event.

The Learning Curve

dip14  When it comes to photography, people seem to be split into different groups:

First, there are the people who have a compact ‘point a shoot’ camera. They slip it into a purse or pocket, pull it out and snap away without much thought. They facebook their photos, holding the camera out at arms length so they can take pics of themselves and a mate, compete with red-eye. They often swap to an iPhone.

As a photographer, I understand the joys and fears that come with photography as art. There is a great deal of joy and satisfaction for me that stems from making an image that tells a story and draws the viewer in. There is also dread and fear that needs to be faced when you are pushed out of your comfort zone – it’s terrifying but that’s where you learn and grow the most.
