Strobists at ACCA

Yes, yes, I know, it’s been a long time between posts. I have a couple of drafts ‘in the can’ so to speak, but did not get to posting them. Slack…

Anyway, enough excuses, here’s the latest update. Last night I spent an evening with a small group of Melbourne Strobists. We used the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art as our location and were ably assisted by Aimee, Aksoy and Jess in the modeling department.

The weather was fantastic (perhaps a little too balmy) and the western sky provided a beautiful backdrop to the edgy architecture of the ACCA building:

Of all the location photography I have done, I would have to say that this shoot has provided me with the best shots so far. I’m quite happy with these images, although there is always more I could have done to improve them. The key lesson for me was focusing issues as the light faded – none of us had a torch that we could use to assist our auto focus. My Nikon fought on valiantly, but I did lose a few cracker shots to softness, and others to subject movement as the shutter times got above a quarter of a second. Still, here are the results, so I hope you enjoy them!

If you click on any of the images it will open up a slideshow, enjoy!
